Malcolm was born and educated in the UK. He served an apprenticeship as a journeyman Electrician and then returned to college for four years and qualified as a professional electrical and electronic engineer.

  • Formulated digital and analogue mathematical models using Laplace and z transform techniques to represent process control algorithms for controlling plastic-injection molding equipment.
  • Investigated the feasibility of implementing process control algorithms in a high-level programming language.
Software Engineer Ferranti, Edinburgh, Scotland (1979–1981) Developed real-time software, using Coral 66, to control and monitor the flow of data along a 1553B data bus used within test gear for testing a new radar system, code-named Blue Kestrel.
Avionics Engineer British Aerospace, Warton Aerodrome, England (1978–1979) Responsible for ensuring that the main computer and interface units were, and remained, compatible with the airframe installation on Tornado MRCA aircraft.
Design Engineer Plessey, Poole, England (1976–1978)
  • Designed and implemented a general test program, in assembly language, to verify the correct operation of a cheque printing machine.
  • Designed and tested various digital and analogue interface circuits.

  • Served a 5-year apprenticeship as a journeyman Electrician with R.F. Hudson, Oldham. Qualified as an Electrician and a Technician.
  • Electrician with Bostok & Bramley, Stalybridge and with Horwich & Smith, Oldham.
